Chevrolet Silverado electric: on the market in late 2023

As reported this fall, the all-electric version of the Chevrolet Silverado will be unveiled on January 5 at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. However, future buyers will have to wait two more years.

Doug Parks, executive vice president of global product development at General Motors, confirmed at a Deutsche Bank conference this week that the full-size battery-powered pickup will not go into production until early 2023.

The first deliveries, for their part, will be made towards the end of the year, which suggests that the vehicle will be a 2024 model.

Recall that the Rivian R1T recently became the first electric pickup truck to be delivered to customers in the United States and should be delivered to Canada around mid-2022. The GMC Hummer EV, the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Tesla Cybertruck will also arrive on the Canadian market before the electric Silverado.

What do we know about the latter so far? Well, it will use the new Ultium platform just like the Hummer EV and may be equipped with a four-wheel steering system to steer all four wheels at the same time to increase handling and decrease turning circle.

In terms of range, GM estimates that the electric Silverado will be able to travel up to approximately 640 kilometers on a fully charged battery.

The consumer model will optionally have the largest (non-removable) glass roof in the class and offer better headroom than regular Silverados. Like Ford with its F-150 Lightning Pro, Chevrolet will also have a variant designed specifically for commercial customers and vehicle fleets.
